Wasssahhh, i changed my mind about attending Wyotech, can't see myself in a auto position in 2-3 years so i signed up with Heald last year and tomorrow is my Orientation..Im going for Network Systems Admin, going for my Associates then heading all the way to Masters - Just wanna see if anyone is attending Heald and any complaints or not.. As of my Major, ive made good connects with many Networking personells - I work at Fedex so i get alot of Guys from Cisco, Siebel, SBC, IBM, Dell etc

Oh yeah its Heald College in Hayward off Industrial BLVD - Only thing that sux is that EVERYONE has to wear suit and tie to school EVERYDAY [Frown] Not use to a tie [Big Grin]

So what about you guys?

I went half way through their program at the milpitas campus several years back for computer tech. Class's are super easy. I pulled a 4.0 in all the class's I took there. Why did I leave before finishing? Well I saw that most guys who pulled a 4.0 through the whole program were lucky to be offered $14 an hour after schooling ended. Not only that but most people I talked to said that a degree from there was worth next to nothing. I've known several people like 5 or so who completed their programs and ended up with nothing career wise from it. Their job placement is a joke. To me it wasn't anywhere near worth the 20K it costs to complete your degree there. Junior college's are more respected and cost a shit load less. If I were you I would NOT choose Heald as a place to get an education. These types of school's are about making money for themselves period regardless of what they may tell you.

Graduated Heald College here in SF, Mission Street Campus back in 98.
WORST 25K+ I've spent. I went through the entire 1 1/2 year program, extra 6 month MCSE, A+ Cert program, the whole 9 yards.
They barely teach you enough to get in, if at all. Everything I know is from myself. Heald sucks. Check out DeVry instead. I hear nothing but good things about them.
Stay away from Heald...you'll thanks me later. [patriot]

Have a friend who went through it. He's working at a cement factory making 19 bucks an hour nothing related to what he studied for.

I think it was worthless.

I went to Heald...Business School. That got my foot in the door at Wells Fargo as a full time employee...granted I wasn't making that much money but at least I was in and working in the IT dept. Familiarized myself a little bit with with some stuff, at that time it was mostly pcs and Lan stuff. That gave enough experience to get a job at DHL Worldwide Epxress which paid a little over twice as much starting. Had an over all bump in pay by about 30k over a 4 year span. No longer there but still in the industry 10 years later. I feel that Heald helped me at least get my foot in the door even though it didn't pay well at first. Good luck [patriot]

EDIT: If not Heald, how bout IT Technical Institute?

I graduated from Heald campus in Milpitas in 2000. I wouldn't recommend going to Heald only because jobs in this industry are hard to come by. I was lucky and graduated before the techie wave ended. Now I have an AS degree and 6 years of real work experience to back. Like others said, look elsewhere, perhaps Devry.

The thing is im already attended, and i wont be able to get in DeVry right away, i may have to wait 2-3 months for new Semester to begin.. As of now The company i work for is paying 75% of Healds tuition and its already been approved so i cant just deny and turn back and start DeVry - SInce im already attended how about getting my AS's in HEald and transfering over to DeVry for my BS?

Make sure if you do decide to go there that you can even transfer to Devry or transfer their credits to other schools. Personally I would go to a junior college and transfer to an accredited college, like a California State or UC. Even Devry's credits do not transfer to States or UC's. My boy tried to transfer his and was denied and now has to start from the bottom. Those places are in it for the money. I am glad I stayed away and went to a junior college then a state for my degree.

Yeah i just got off the phone with a Admin at DeVry, they said if i have a 3.00 or above credit they will also provide $2000 off the tuition and that they have a contact with Heald to do the transfer so its available [worship]

I went to Heald. Took it very serious and went to night classes as extra. I was the only one in my class to get a 4.0 throughout. I was immediately offered jobs starting at $20 per hour but was planning back surgery for the following week so I couldn't take advantage of those. At that time I was in my very early 20's and had a great resume from the past as well.

In my opinion Heald was a very good experience [patriot]

Graduated from Heald Business College in 1984. Majored in business data processing. In the early 80's, they weren't in it 'just for the money'. It WAS a highly respected institution. I'm not too sure about now, though. Back then, I was in dead end jobs and had no education. It was a turning point in my life. If anything, it allowed me to grow up and realize there are opportunities out there. It also gave me the chance to get my foot in the door in a different line of work.

20 years later, I'm in a completely different career but have nothing but fond memories of Heald. Let's face it. Education is education. Heald may not land you that six figure income, but it's a start. Grab your AS at Heald and then transfer to Devry. Electronic technicians are in demand! If your company is paying 75% of the tuition, jump on it! The more knowledge you can obtain, the better off you'll be!

BTW, back then the Heald program cost $4500!

The old heald is very different than the new heald. The reason why I went there is because my dad went there a very long time ago when they had an engineering program and it served him well. But the school isn't nearly the same. Even if your company is paying %75 of the tuition think about the 4 hours of each night you'll be wasting. Trust me if I didn't feel strongly about this I would waste the effort in typing all this out for you. Shit you can do a lot with 4 hours a night for a year and a half.

I haven't heard anything good about Heald.

Get an AS from a community college in IT or CS or business or whatever you would be interested in at Heald.

Sorry if this has been said, but honestly I would just go to a JC then move on to a UC. If you pull good grades you can get all the grants and stuff (cal, pel grant and a few others). Plus your degree will hold more ground against other applicants. I had to hire a few people not too long ago and I interviewed a few folks that graduated from Heald and I will tell you that they really didnt know shit. I think that is more of a reflection of the school than the individual plus, I have heard nothing but bad things about heald and the grads. but you can take it upon yourself to expand your own knowledge on your own, and use Heald as a spring board. I started as a Network admin (BS in Comp Sci.) and got my MSCE and A+, But I have since moved on to programming and got my MCSD and MCP and no school IMO gets you ready for true on the job type tasks.

qft [patriot] do it right the first time and go to a csu or do the jc->uc route if its more feasible. you'll earn a whole lot more in the end, get more offers, and maybe save some money on the way.

I have had three close friends that went to heald, two of them graduated right when the tech industry was booming and both got picked up by people soft. Well as soon as the industry busted they were laid off and have never found a job even close to the pay at people soft of the opportunity to move up. They have all said that everything they learned they already knew or taught themselves and it was a waste of money. Also there job placement is a joke, for my third friend he never got hired by any company and ended up opening his own computer shop.

Sooo by the reviews it seems like after you graduate there its hard to find a good paying job but the thing is, you NEED connects to get in the door - I built my connects already i know about 8 different Presidents, District Managers, LAN Admins, System Admins around the Bay Area that come to fedex daily and they all gave me their cards, told me right after i get my AS to contact them and get in with them - As long as i take step in the door in that field i will be good to go - Well im going for orientation tomorrow so ill see what other students are saying....

Thanks alot guys, i know what to expect from Heald - lol
